Kanto Lampo Waterfall Bali (The Ultimate Guide)

Kanto Lampo Waterfall (referred to by locals as ‘Air Terjun Kanto Lampo‘) is located only a short 30-minute drive from Ubud in Bali. This hidden paradise provides the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the town.

The Kanto Lampo Waterfall was formed after the Kanto Lampo river area was caught by an avalanche. Although it may not be one of the most well-known waterfalls in Bali, it is certainly worth a visit.

Stunning in its visual flow of water over the rocky cliff, this makes a very instagammable spot. In this detailed guide we are going to share everything you need to know before visiting Kanto Lampo Waterfall.

How do you get to Kanto Lampo Waterfall?

Getting to Kanto Lampo Waterfall is really easy. It’s location is in Beng village in Gianyar, just a short 30-minute drive from Ubud. By far the easiest way of reaching the waterfall is by scooter, with plenty of scooter rental shops located throughout Bali. The average cost to rent a bike/scooter will be around 60,000 – 70,000 IDR per day.

Just as easily you can take a taxi, which the price will obviously depend on where you are travelling from. To give you a rough idea, the cost to get from Ubud to Kanto Lampo Waterfall will be about 200,000 IDR.

If you are coming from Kuta, Canggu, or Seminyak then the taxi fare is going to be higher as the distance is further and can take up to an hour to reach. Alternatively, you can hire a private driver for the day for around 600,000 IDR which means you can check out some other spots too.

After reaching the parking area, it’s a short five to ten minute walk down the signposted stairs until reaching the waterfall. The hike is much easier compared to other waterfalls in the area, but can still be exhausting on the way back up.

The Kanto Lampo Waterfall entrance fee is 20,000 IDR per person.

When To Visit Kanto Lampo Waterfall

Kanto Lampo Waterfall is open all year round, but it’s best to visit during the dry season between April and September. In the rainy season, the water levels can increase making it challenging to reach the waterfall.

Although this is one of the lesser-known waterfalls in Bali, it can still become busy – especially during tourist peak times. Try to avoid visiting at midday, and either come early (before 11 am) or late afternoon (after 4 pm). The waterfall is open 24/7, but we advise only visiting while there is still light out.

Kanto Lampo Waterfall Experience

The waterfall is in a jungle setting, through the rice terraces and below into the cliffs. It’s one of the most accessible waterfalls in Bali, and completely suitable for children of all ages.

Unlike the usual flow of water pouring down into a lake at the bottom, Kanto Lampo is set in the centre of a flowing river. You will need to go down a set of stairs to reach the river. Hold onto the rail as water runs over the stairs causing them to sometimes become slippery.

There are different parts to the waterfall where you can hike up to and get your picture-perfect photo. The waterfall is small and compact at the bottom, often too small to place many people. Try to arrive early in order to beat the tourists.

The waterfall is quiet and peaceful, and there are plenty of stones where you can sit and relax.

Top Tips When Visiting Kanto Lampo Waterfall

  • Bring Swimming Gear – The waterfall is best enjoyed when going into the river, so make sure to bring appropriate swimming gear. This also provides some great photo opportunities.
  • Wear Appropriate Shoes – It’s best to wear water shoes as the rocks are extremely slippery.
  • Take your camera and a 10,000 IDR bill – Bring your camera or phone with you, along with 10,000 IDR. At the bottom of the waterfall you will find locals who are more than happy to take your photograph. Use the 10,000 IDR to tip them for their hard work.
